Perinatal Mental Health and Postpartum

banner image

Perinatal mental health is defined as the time frame from conception through the first year after giving birth. Statistics report 1 out of 5 to 7 women are affected by perinatal depression and 1 out of 10 new fathers suffer from postpartum depression. Perinatal mental health has many faces such as Depression/Anxiety in Pregnancy, Postpartum Depression, Perinatal Panic Disorder, Perinatal Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, Postpartum Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Perinatal Bipolar Disorder and Postpartum Psychosis. Without appropriate intervention, poor maternal health can affect mother, child and family that may lead to long term implications.

Additional Perinatal Mental Health Challenges

  • Infertility
  • Perinatal and Neonatal Loss
  • Parents of Multiples
